SHIMLA: Kalon Karma Gelek Yuthok, Department of Religion & Culture, CTA began his second official tour as part of Kashag’s ongoing program to visit Tibetan settlements. During this tour, Kalon is scheduled to visit Shimla and Dolanji Tibetan Settlement from 2 – 7 May 2017.
On his arrival in Shimla on 2 May, Kalon was received by Tibetan settlement officer, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Local Tibetan Assembly, President of Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement and representative of Monasteries. As per the program arranged by settlement office, on 3 May, Kalon Karma Gelek Yuthok visited Shimla Dorje Drak Monastery where he paid his respect to the relics of Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche and met the Khenpo and other concerned staff of the monastery. This was followed by visiting Tibetan Handicraft Center and Tibetan settlements.
In the afternoon, a general public meeting was held in Tibetan Handicraft hall which was attended by a hundred local Tibetans. Kalon addressed the public about CTA’s policy on sustenance of Tibetan community, preservation of its culture and identity, Kashag’s five-fifty strategy, Women Empowerment Policy and CTA’s Tibet advocacy campaign for the year 2017. The meeting was concluded successfully after series of questions raised by public on various issues.
On May 4, 2017 Kalon visited CST school, Shimla and had interaction with teachers and students. He also visited Sanjoli Jonang monastery, Rangzen Camp, and old people’s home of Namgyal monastery. Later in the afternoon, Kalon attended a panel discussion in Tibetan Settlement office. The meeting was attended by Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Local Tibetan Assembly, Tibetan settlement officer, President of Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, representative of the monasteries, Manager of Tibetan handcraft center, staff of Mentseekhang and representatives of the other organizations and institutions.
Kalon will be visiting Dolanji Tibetan Settlement from 5 to 7 May.
