Dharamshala: The Department of Religion and Culture, (DRC) Central Tibetan Administration paid honorarium in lieu of salary to monastic teachers in India, Nepal and Bhutan. This is a second-year program organized by DRC with financial support from the Italian Buddhist Union (UBI) for paying appreciation to the teachers who continue to teach Buddhism in Tibetan monasteries and nunneries.
This program was first initiated in 2019 as part of commemorating the 60 years in exile under the guidance and leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The program is aimed at supporting Tibetan monasteries and nunneries for retaining qualified teachers for a longer period and also paying appreciation for those teachers who continue to teach Buddhism in their respective monastic institutions.
Initially, DRC targeted 500 monastic teachers from Tibetan monastic institutions in India, Nepal and Bhutan however 496 monastic teachers list received from 192 monasteries and nunneries. Each teacher will receive Rs. 3000 per month for a period of one year as an honorarium in lieu of salary. The department extended their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to UBI for funding Euro 250,000 for monastic teachers’ salary program.
