DHARAMSHALA: Tsewang, a monk of Drilda monastery in Trido town, Sog County, has been sentenced to ten years in prison by a Chinese court, according to media reports. The exact date of the sentencing, however, is not clear.
Chinese authorities detained Tsewang last March, along with three other monks, Tsangyang Gyatso, Atse and Gyalsten.
Tsangyang Gyatso, who was also the chant leader of the monastery, was sentenced to twelve years in prison last October. He was falsely charged with separatism and plotting against the government.
Tsewang’s ailing mother was not informed about his sentence, a source from the region told mediapersons.
