One arrested for disapproving fake reincarnation
DHARAMSHALA: Amid continued crackdown in Nagchu region of Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), a Tibetan man has been arrested for disapproving a reincarnate lama appointed by the Chinese administration in Nagchu county.
Tsokye, aged in his early forties, was arrested on 13 December after he expressed disapproval of a lama appointed by the Chinese administration as the reincarnation of Rongwo Choejey Rinpoche. Tsokye’s current whereabouts and well-being remain unknown.
Rongwo Choejey Rinpoche is the spiritual head of Gaden Dhargyeling monastery based in Shag Rongpo in Nagchu county. He passed away in 2010 which led to frictions between the monastery and the local Chinese administration over his reincarnation.
Alleging the monastery for conspiring with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in identifying the reincarnation, the Chinese authorities forcibly shut down the monastery in July this year. Hundreds of police and security forces have been deployed in and around the monastery.
The Chinese authorities also appointed a fake reincarnation which was disapproved by the local Tibetan public. The monks of the monastery were forced to abandon the monastery and are currently sheltering in various places nearby the monastery.
The local Tibetans are facing the brunt of the forced closure of the monastery since they are not allowed to visit the monastery to perform religious activities.
