DHARAMSHALA: Chophel Thupten, Chief Representative of Southern Tibetan Settlements based in Bangalore, called on Chief Minister Shri H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar, on 7 June 2018. Chief Representative Chophel Thupten is accompanied by the five settlement officers and five chairmen of FTCI in Karnataka during the meeting. The meeting was facilitated by the Chief Representative’s office.
Presenting a ceremonial Tibetan scarf, the Tibetan delegation offered the new chief minister a hearty congratulation and wished him all the success in his endeavors. The chief representative also presented the congratulatory letter sent by CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay and Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel of the Tibetan Parliament to the Chief Minister.
The chief minister asked the chief representative about the problems and challenges faced by the Tibetan community in Karnataka and the chief representative briefly apprised him of the situation of the Tibetan settlements. He also requested a separate meeting in the future to apprise the chief minister about the Tibetan situation in detail to which the chief minister agreed.
The Tibetan delegation led by the Chief Representative also met Dr G Parameshwar, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka state. The Deputy Chief Minister listened to the grievances of the Tibetan community and expressed assistance. Dr G Parameshwar is a longtime supporter of the Tibet cause and has expressed admiration for His Holiness the Dalai Lama on numerous occasions.
