Dharamshala: The Department of Health, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), organised the Summer Inter-Departmental Basketball Tournament at Gangchen Kyishong from 20 April to 12 May 2026, with the primary objective of promoting physical health and fostering camaraderie among CTA staff.

Kashag Secretary Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi attended the event as the chief guest, along with other CTA Secretaries, and delivered a brief inaugural address prior to the commencement of the matches. In his address, he referred to the special audience granted by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the entire staff of the CTA at the Tsuglagkhang earlier that morning, and encouraged all staff members to carry out their responsibilities with greater dedication and sincerity.

The Secretary further remarked that many youngsters participated in this year’s basketball tournament, recalling that the primary objective of the event was to promote physical well-being and strengthen friendship and unity among the participants. He added that while every competition produces winners and runners-up, the more important aspect lies in maintaining good health and encouraging wider participation in future.

The tournament finals were held in two categories. In the women’s category, CTA United clinched the championship title, while the Department of Health finished as runners-up. In the men’s division, the Department of Finance emerged as champions, with the Department of Information and International Relations securing second place.

The tournament, attended by CTA staff, concluded with a prize distribution ceremony. Chief guest Kashag Secretary Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi presented trophies to the winning and runner-up teams. He also offered khatags to the match referees and presented the CTA Games Committee’s Best Player Award to Tenzin Kunsang of the Department of Finance.

The 2026 Summer CTA basketball tournament comprised ten men’s teams and two women’s teams. The event concluded with a group photo session of the players.
