Dharamshala: The long-time staunch Tibet supporter, Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi, was honoured with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award of the United States, on 3 May 2024. This prestigious recognition lauds her “exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavours.”
The erstwhile House Speaker is the first and only woman to be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, and she has tirelessly championed the cause of Tibet throughout her distinguished three and a half decades in the US Congress. Her unwavering support has made her one of the most influential and efficacious allies of Tibet on the global stage.
Following the conferral of the Presidential Medal of Freedom upon her, along with 18 others, on Friday, Spokesperson of the Central Tibetan Administration, Additional Secretary Tenzin Lekshay, posted on his X platform, “The Central Tibetan Administration warmly congratulates former US House Speaker @SpeakerPelosi on being awarded the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour.”
