Canadian Parliamentarian Calls on China to Talk
Dharamsala 11 April 2005: China must start negotiation with the representatives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama leading to self determination by the Tibetan people, said Deepak Obhrai, member of Parliament, Calgary East, and Vice Chair of Parliamentary Friends of Tibet in Canada.
“The Tibetan people have a distinct identity and China’s attempt to force Tibet into assimilation will not be accepted by the free loving people of the world.â€ÂÂÂ
“China cannot stop the self-determination aspirations of the Tibetan peopleâ€ÂÂÂ. The Parliamentary Friends of Tibet with Members of Parliament from all parties in the Canadian Parliament called on China to respect human rights of its people.
Deepak Obhrai was speaking at a press conference here on Saturday. He said that the large-scale violation of the human rights by China is a serious concern to the Canadian parliamentarians.
The Canadian parliamentarians view Chinese policies in Tibet to be detrimental to the stability of the region, he said.
Deepak was in Dharamsala to lend his support to the growing international movement to secure a genuine autonomy for Tibet as aspired by the Middle Way Approach.
