Canada: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration who is currently on an official visit to Canada was formally acknowledged at the Canadian Parliament on Wednesday, 22 November 2023. Canadian MP James Maloney acknowledged the democratically elected leader of the exiled Tibetan administration in the presence of Speaker Greg Fergus and members of the House. MP Maloney expressed his cordial welcome to Sikyong Penpa Tsering, who, he added is “the voice of the Tibetans around the world and in Canada”.
He further apprised the house about the vibrant culture of the thousands of Tibetans living in Canada. In regard to such a significant cross-culture aspect, MP Maloney added that the major goals of the Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre located in Etobicoke Lakeshore, are the preservation of Buddhism, and reflection and respect for life in harmony that transcends all cultures. Additionally, he remarked that “Non-violence and peace are the universal aspirations for all humanity” and added that the Sikyong embodies those values. He expressed his appreciation for Sikyong’s hard work and effort and furthermore assured his commitment and support to stand with the Sikyong and the people of Tibet.
