OSAKA, Japan: Describing loving-kindness and morality as universal values, His Holiness the Dalai Lama today stressed the importance of bringing about social transformation through promotion of secular ethics.
Speaking on promotion of secular ethics to thousands of Japanese and hundreds of Korean devotees in Osaka today, His Holiness called on the Japanese, particularly the intellectuals, to introduce study of human mind and secular ethics to make progress in inner development.
“The Japanese people have made immense material development, now they should make second progress by introducing academic research into the study of mind and secular ethics,” he said.
“It is very difficult to develop peaceful mind through technological gadgets like computers and cameras. So, it is essential to mend the invisible thing called mind,” His Holiness added.
He Holiness suggested that it would be very helpful to hold the mind and life conference in Japan in the near future.
His Holiness said corruption and gap between rich and poor are new diseases in today’s world. “These results from lack of moral ethics and honesty,” he added.
Responding to a question from a Japanese mother on how to deal with her children, His Holiness said she should use her intelligence to deal with her children’s problem. Whatever method you use should be for the long-term benefit of your children, he added.
His Holiness expressed happiness over growing enthusiasm and interest among the Japanese people in his visits to their country. He thanked hundreds of Korean for spending their time and money to attend his talks in Osaka today
