
Earlier this morning, Mr. Samuel Cogolati, Federal Belgian Parliamentarian of Ecolo/Green received Representative Tashi Phuntsok and EU Advocacy Officer Ms Rigzin Genkhang at the Belgian Parliament House.
Important issues were discussed during the meeting. The Tibetan delegation thanked Mr Cogolati for his initiative and involvement in urging the Belgian government’s stand on religious freedom in Tibet and also including the issue of reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. Mr Cogolati reassured his support and stand for Tibet in the Federal Parliament whenever necessary.
The delegation also Mr Cogolati to the forthcoming 85th birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Cogolati shares a close relationship with the Office of Tibet. Earlier in December, he attended the reception of the Office at Huy on the eve of the Third Europe Tibetan Buddhist Conference.
Representative Phuntsok presented a brief update on the human rights situation in Tibet. He raised the concern about the condition of Tibetans in Tibet amidst the current massive covid-19 epidemic in China. He also shared a brief report on the latest Freedom House report in which Tibet was yet again named as the second least free country, after Syria, in the world.
A larger part of the discussion was over the promotion of Tibet issue in the Belgian Federal Parliament. Mr Cogolati assured that he would be available for any issue to be raised on Tibet.
