Beijing should Consider His Holiness’ Request to Visit China

Dharamshala (TibetNet): On 13 March 2006 Kasur Tashi Wandi, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in United States, called on Chinese leaders to consider the request of His Holiness to visit China. AsiaNews, Washington, quoted him as saying that Beijing should approve a request by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to visit China as it would ease tensions in the Himalayan territory.
“The proposed visit by His Holiness is a win-win situation,” Wangdi said at a hearing of the Congressional Executive Commission on China. “The Chinese leaders should have no fear as to what might happen if such a visit is allowed, because the Dalai Lama will do nothing except bring about better

understanding, harmony and friendship. The visit would have a calming effect on the situation inside Tibet. We have no doubt the whole world will welcome such a move.”
In the latest 10th March statement, His Holiness the Dalai Lama expressed his desire to visit China on a pilgrimage. His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that China is a country with long history of Buddhism, and has many sacred pilgrim sites. “As well as visiting the pilgrim sites, I hope to be able to see for myself the changes and developments in the People’s Republic of China”, His Holiness said.
