
Canberra: The Australian All-Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet met on 5 February 2026 to discuss and chalk out actions plans for Tibet, on the side lines of ongoing Autumn sitting of the parliament.
The Co-chair of the Australian All Parliamentary Group for Tibet Hon’ble Susan Templeman MP chaired the meeting joined by other members of the group including Senator Dean Smith,Senator Barbara Pocock, Senator Deborah O’ Neill, Dr. Sophie Scamps MP, David Smith MP and Kate Chaney MP.
Representative Karma Singey and Chinese Liaison Officer Dawa Sangmo from the Tibet Information Office, and Dr. Zoe Bedford from the Australia Tibet Council participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, Senator Barbara Pocock, who recently visited Dharamshala, shared her experiences of meetings with the exiled Tibetan leadership and insight into the lives of Tibetan refugees in exile.
Representative Karma Singey briefly spoke about the significance of this year celebrating the “Year of Compassion,” a global initiative declared by the Central Tibetan Administration to mark the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He also briefed them about Tibet office’s priorities for the year and expressed his gratitude to the members for their continued support, which has been instrumental in keeping the Tibet high on agenda and leading to significant achievements over the past years.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to support and advocacy for the rights of Tibetan people whose language, culture and religion are facing unprecedented threat of eradication in Tibet under the Chinese rule.
