ATPD Welcomes Phuntsog Nyidrol’s Release
Dharamsala, 27 February: The release of Phuntsog Nyidrol, Tibet’s longest serving woman prisoner is a welcome news. We pray for her happy re-union with her family and relatives. We look towards the release of all other political prisoners inside Tibet.
The Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies (Tibetan Parliament in exile) appreciate the persistent International support and express gratitude to the U.S. House of Representatives for its resolution # 157 dated February 3, 2004, calling on China for the immediate release of Phuntsog Nyidrol and all other political prisoners in Tibet. Yet, one can not help but doubt the release to be an eyewash on the eve of the UN Human Rights Commission meeting in March.
We continue to appeal for continuation of the close watch on the status of Tibetans and the Human Rights violation inside Tibet. We remain concerned of the arbitrary arrest, imprisonment, mal-treatment of prisoner and denial of fair judicial-trial. We remain concerned of the fate of Tulku Tenzin Delek, awaiting execution. We remain deeply concerned of the well being of the young Panchen Lama, whose whereabouts is still a mystery.
