ATPD Vice Chairperson Attends Women’s Conference in Italy

Dharamsala, 11 March: The Vice Chairperson of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies today participated in the first International Elected Women’s and Equal Opportunities Expo at the Lingotto Congress Center in Turin, Italy.
Organised by Elected Women’s Consultative Group and Piedmont Regional Council, the event is being held under the patronage of Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi with support from European Union and Ministry of Equal Opportunities.
Named EXPOELETTE, the event is aimed to provide an opportunity for women to be increasingly present in all elective assemblies and in government thus strengthening their capacity to represent general interests.
More than 3600 women from all over the world are expected to attend this conference. Mrs. Gyari had been invited by the organisers to speak at the conference. Meanwhile, she also attended the 10 March commemoration function of the resident Tibetans as the chief guest yesterday in Milan.
The conference will conclude on 13 March.
