Assembly elects new Chairman
Dharamsala Sept 21, 2001: The new Chairman of the Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies, Mr. Karma Choephel, took his oath of office today from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Karma Choephel was earlier elected as one of the deputies from U-Tsang Province in the exile Parliament.
After finishing his studies from Central School for Tibetans, Mussorie, Mr. Karma Choephel, did his B. A. (Hons) from Delhi University. Later he attained Bachelor of Education degree from Bangalore University and then taught at Bylakuppee Tibetan School. During that period he also served as the Secretary of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC), Bylakuppee.
Later he served as the Rector of Central School for Tibetans, Shimla, and Central School for Tibetans, Mussorie.
In 1991 he was elected as one of the deputies from U-Tsang province to the 11th and the 12th Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD). He again reelected to the 13th Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD)
Mr. Choephel has also served as the president of National Democratic Party of Tibet.
