Assembly approves four Kalons proposed by Kalon Tripa

Dharamshala: The deputies approved four Kalons (members of the Kashag, the highest executive body of the Tibetan Administration) out of the five candidates proposed by the Kalon Tripa, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, this morning during the 2nd session of the 14th Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD).
The Charter of the Tibetans in exile gives Kalon Tripa the right to submit not more than seven candidates to form his Kashag, subject to the approval from the ATPD by at least 50 percent.

The candidates placed by Kalon Tripa to work as his colleagues for the 13th Kashag are Kesang Yangkyi, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in London, Thubten Lungrik, former Kalon for the Education and Health departments, Tempa Tsering, Representative of Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi, Lobsang Nyandak Zayul, former Kalon for the Finance and Information and International Relations, and deputy Tsering Phuntsok (member of the ATPD).
The four new Kalons are Kesang Yangkyi who was approved by 38 votes out of 40 total votes cast, Thubten Lungrik with 21 votes out of 40 total votes cast, Tempa Tsering with 34 votes out of 40 total votes cast and Tsering Phuntsok with 23 votes out of 40 total votes cast
