Dharamshala: The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Office of Auditor General began yesterday at the Administrative Training & Welfare Society in Khanyara, Dharamshala. The five-day meeting, held from 7 to 11 January 2025, aims to discuss key aspects of auditing, financial governance, and regulatory frameworks.
The event commenced at 9 a.m. with a ceremonial lighting of the butter lamp before a portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, performed by Additional Secretary Thinley Chomphel, who represented the Auditor General. This act symbolised a call for wisdom and guidance throughout the deliberations.
During the opening ceremony, Additional Secretary Thinley Chomphel presented a detailed schedule of the five-day program. Following this, Joint Secretary Tenzin Shendhen delivered the Auditor General’s message to the staff.
In the message, the Auditor General emphasised the importance of conducting audits with best judgment and leveraging modern technology to enhance accuracy and efficiency. The message also highlighted the role of auditors as collaborators who are there to assist auditee units, fostering an environment of mutual cooperation and understanding to strengthen overall governance and accountability.
The agenda for the AGM is comprehensive, addressing a wide array of topics to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of auditing operations. Key activities include branch suggestions and staff committee recommendations, with each branch presenting its suggestions followed by discussions to integrate practical improvements into auditing practices. Sessions also focus on regulatory and financial topics, including the Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) rules and regulations, key financial areas such as Income Tax, GST, FCRA compliance, financial statements, and audit reports. Collaborative discussions aim to strengthen the quality and transparency of audit reports, promoting a culture of accountability and cooperation.
The AGM provides a platform for auditors and staff to review past performances, address challenges, and set future goals aligned with the strategic vision of the Auditor General’s office.
The meeting will continue until 11 January, culminating in a summary of the discussions and actionable resolutions aimed at enhancing the efficiency and impact of the office’s auditing practices.
