
NAGPUR, Maharashtra: Shri. Sandesh Meshram aka Samten Yeshi, an active Tibet supporter from Nagpur, Maharashtra, embarked on a lone cycle rally from his hometown on 10 December 2014, to mark the 25th anniversary of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
His main objective was to create awareness about Tibet and the Tibetan people among the grass root level Indians by distributing pamphlets, talking with local media and holding meetings along the way.
He left Nagpur on 10 December and travelled to Mainpat, Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Visakapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh). Currently, he is on his way to Guntur and then to Amravati and towards Hyderabad. Following which he will travel to Kerala,from where he will start his journey back to Maharashtra through Karimnagar and Chandrapur. The rally will conclude at Norgyeling (Bandhara) Tibetan Settlement on 5 February 2015.
During the rally, the lone cyclist will be covering a distance of 3087 kms within a time span of 2 months. He will ride through five Indian States including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha & Kerala, crossing three Tibetan settlements of Norgyeling (Bandhara), Phendeling (Mainpat) and Phuntsokling (Odisha).
Shri Sandesh Meshram is from Nagpur, Maharashtra. He runs a printing house of his own and is closely associated with the Tibetan settlement of Bandhara (Norgyeling).
“ He is an ardent Tibet supporter. He is the General Secretary of India Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS) Nagpur chapter for the last more than 40 years,” a staff from the India-Tibet Co-ordination Office (ITCO) based in New Delhi said.
“He has actively participated in the 2nd Tibetan Peace March from Wardha in Maharashtra to Delhi, organised by Central Executive Committee of 8 Tibetan NGOs from December 1996 – February 1997. He was also the only Indian supporter to take part in the Tibetan Youth Congress peace march from Dharamshala to Delhi last February,” the staff added.
