All India Tibet Support Groups Adopt Declaration for Tibet
Dharamsala, 8 September 2003: The three -day conference of the Tibet Support Groups in India came out with a Declaration which was adopted unanimously yesterday. The Tibet Support Groups appealed to the government of India to ‘reorient’ its policy towards Tibet from expression of sympathy to extending political pro-active support.
The Declaration appealed the Indian government to appoint a coordinator on Tibet like the US to facilitate conclusive negotiations without preconditions between the Tibetan exile administration and the People’s Republic of China.
The All India Tibet Support Groups Conference also drafted its action plan which included ‘developing more grass root support and continuing efforts to enhance awareness for greater support for the Tibetan cause amongst Indians through a variety of programmes more particularly focused on youth, students and women’.
The declaration appreciated the pragmatic approach put forth by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for a genuine autonomy to the people of Tibet. The recent effort to re-establish contact with the people’s Republic of China to create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue was also appreciated in the Declaration.
Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration, was present yesterday for the valedictory function. Prof. Rinpoche addressed the gathering in Hindi. He also spoke to media-persons after the function.
