London, 5 August 2020: A group of four Tibetans held a “Peace March: Walk for Tibet”, Bristol to London today at @ BST 10 am from Plinth Site of Colston Statue, Bristol. The opening Peace March ceremony was attended by Hon. MP Kerry McCarthy, member of All-Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet, and the Tibetan community in Bristol and friends of Tibet and Tibet supporters.
“The Peace March: Walk for Tibet,” initiator Ms Tenzin Sangmo in her opening remarks said the main purpose of initiating this peach march is to raise awareness about the plight of Tibetans including human rights abuses in Tibet, Xinjiang and Hong Kong under the brutal authoritarian government of Chinese Communist Party and to seek support from the international community and in particular, seek support from the UK Government and its people.
Hon. MP Kerry McCarthy in her speech said that she came up to show her support because she really appreciates what Tibetans in the diaspora are doing in raising awareness about the grim situation facing in Tibet. And also it has been a very difficult time that China is put under the spotlight a lot more in recent months and felt it is very important to stand up to China. She expressed her support and best wishes to the peace marchers.
The four participants of the Peace March include Ms Tenzin Sangmo, Sonam Tsering, Tashi Dhondup and Tenzin Phuntsok, all from Bristol, UK.
The Office of Tibet, London commended Ms Tenzin Sangmo and team for initiating this peace march from Bristol to London to raise awareness about Tibet. The team will arrive in London on 10 August 2020.
