Dharamshala: Marietta Davis, who lives in Australia, is presently here in Dharamsala to perform Tashi Shoelpa (Tibetan Opera) on the occasion of 45th anniversary of the Tibetan Children’s Village scheduled on 23 October.
Marietta Davis learned Tashi Shoelpa 8 years back at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Art (TIPA) from Tsetan, the son of opera master of the TIPA.
She said that she taught Tashi Shoelpa to the Tibetans in London and performed with Tibetans in Sydney on the occasion of Losar (Tibetan New Year) and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday.
The artistes of the Thangtong Lhugar Tibetan Performing Art are going to provide musical accompaniment to her solo performance. She said that she doesn’t speak Tibetan and thus it took three weeks for her to learn the Tashi Shoelpa dialouge song.
