Conference Will Focus Attention on the Thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and His Holiness the Dalai Lama
A national conference on global peace through universal responsibility will be held in New Delhi in the first week of November to focus attention on the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other leading peace exponents on the themes of non-violence, compassion and universal responsibility. The conference will attract leading scholars and over 100 invited participants from across 15 states in India who have made major contributions in the fields of philosophy, religion, diplomacy, culture, history, conflict resolution, peace and social justice.
“I am glad that this conference is taking place,” said Professor Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration, who will give the welcome address at the conference. “I believe that this conference will serve as an important forum to draw the attention of the general public on the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and His Holiness the Dalai Lama on peace, compassion, non-violence and universal responsibility, which are becoming increasingly important in our conflict-ridden world.”
Kalon Tripa added that the proceedings of the conference will be published so as to make the thoughts of some of the leading exponents on non-violence and compassion available to the larger community.
The two-day conference will be addressed by the governor of Karnataka, Shri T.N. Chaturvedi, Shri Ravindra Varma of Gandhi Peace Foundation, Dr. Radha Burnier, International President of the Theosophical Society, and other eminent scholars and peace advocates. Dr. L.M. Singhvi will give the inaugural address of the conference.
Kalon Lobsang Nyima, the chairman of the organising committee responsible for the celebration of the year-long 70th birth anniversary of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, said, “This conference in New Delhi is an important part of the series of events we have been organising to express our gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his leadership and service he has rendered to the Tibetan people.”
The conference will be held from 6 to 7 November at the Vishwa Yuvak Kendra in Chanakyapuri in New Delhi.
