His Holiness the Dalai Lama on successor
FEBRUARY O2, 2001: Recently a section of international media has carried reports saying that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is in the process of choosing an elected political successor or His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be choosing an elected political successor.
Some clarification is required on this issue:
During an exclusive interview with the AFP at the end of January, His Holiness the Dalai Lama spoke at length about the increasing democratisation of the Tibetan exile polity and He specifically mentioned about the changes in the election of the members of the Kashag, which is the highest executive body in the Tibetan Administration. Unlike before His Holiness the Dalai Lama will nominate not less than two individuals for the post of Chairman of the Kashag, out of which the members of the Tibetan Parliament will elect the Chairman of the Kashag. Once elected the Chairman of the Kashag will nominate seven individuals as members of his cabinet with the consent of the Tibetan Parliament.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama was talking about these changes and not about his spiritual and political successor who will be discovered as the XV Dalai Lama of Tibet.
