The Central Tibetan Administration welcomes the appointment of new US Coordinator for Tibetan issues.
Dharamshala, 18 May, 2001
The Central Tibetan Administration is delighted by the appointment of the Bush administration of Ms. Paula Dobriansky as the new Special Co-ordinator for Tibetan Issue.
The appointment of such a senior official as the Tibet co-ordinator will send a clear and strong message to the world and to China of the seriousness of the Bush administration’s commitment to facilitating negotiations between Dharamsala and Beijing to resolve the issue of Tibet peacefully.
Secretary Colin Powell’s appointment of Ms.Paula Dobriansky as America’s new Tibet co-ordinator will be a source of enormous encouragement to the people of Tibet who look to America to take the leadership role in restoring their lost rights and freedoms.
We the Central Tibetan Administration, welcome this appointment and feel that Ms.Paula Dobriansky’s vast experience and knowledge of global affairs will enable her to enhance the effectiveness of her new office.
At the same time we call upon the new Tibet co-ordinator to seriously bring about a much-needed sense of urgency in her new responsibility. The people of Tibet who for the last 50 years have seen their fundamental rights systematically destroyed, their life style undermined and their identity threatened deserve unrelenting attention of the free world.
