Dharamshala: The Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD) staged a silent and peaceful procession in New Delhi to express solidarity with those who are denied religious freedom in Tibet and to draw world attention to the appalling human rights situation inside Tibet.
Monks and nuns sat in this peaceful protest on 23 December in the capital of India for the release of five arrested monks and all the political prisoners in Tibet.
The ATPD also wrote a letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) for protection of religious freedom and restoration of human rights in Tibet and to the China’s President, Mr. Hu Jintao to help create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect for the religious freedom of the people of Tibet.
In a letter to Mr. Hu Jintao, the ATPD urged the People’s Republic of China to release Tibetan political prisoners including His Serenity the Panchen Lama, Gedun Choekyi Nyima, to withdraw military and official interference from Drepung Monastery and to start negotiation with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in finding a lasting solution to the issue of Tibet.
Recalling the UN resolutions of 1959,1961 and 1965, which failed to improve the situation inside Tibet, the ATPD once again make this appeal with the hope that their intervension would help to change the situation for the Tibetans.
