Parliament of Himalayan Culture to start on 19th April
Dharamsala, 14 April 2003: The ‘Himalayan Parivar (family)’ is organizing the first ever ‘Parliament of Himalayan Culture’ this month. At a press conference attended by a few Tibetan news agencies Ven. Yeshi Phuntsok from ‘Bharat Thibet Sahyog Manj’, one of the organizers of the event, explained about the coming conference.
He said the conference is being organized by the ‘Himalaya Family’ in collaboration with thirty other cultural and religious organizations on the 19th and 20th of April at Chandiwala Estate in Delhi. Around 200 participants from India, Nepal and Bhutan are expected to take part in the two-day gathering.
According to Ven. Yeshi Phuntsok, the occasion will be inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the Vice President of India. The Conference will be also attended by luminaries like Shri George Fernandes, the Defense Minister of India, Shri Manohar M. Joshi, the Minister for Culture and Education, Shri Jagmohan, the Minister for Environment, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Kalon Tripa and a number of other noted personalities.
During the two-day convention, the participants will discuss three key topics – Threats to the Security and Identity of the Himalayas: Causes and Solutions; Crises and Solutions to the Nature, Society and Economics of the Himalayas; and lastly on the Availability of Natural Resources in the Himalayas: Preservation, Restoration and Utilization.
In his parting note, Ven. Yeshi Phuntsok added that ‘the underlying reason for holding the conference is to highlight the importance of the Tibetan issue in establishing a peaceful, secure and thriving Himalayan Culture.’
