
Washington D.C.: Sikyong Penpa Tsering began his Washington, D.C. engagements with a meeting at the Office of Tibet with senior staffer from Congressman James P. McGovern’s office, who recently introduced the new bill on Tibet in U.S. Congress.
At the Office of Tibet, Sikyong also received a briefing from Representative Namgyal Choedup and the team from International Campaign for Tibet. Discussions focused on shared priorities, ongoing advocacy efforts, and strategies to advance Tibetan cause at the policy level.
On Capitol Hill, Sikyong met with Jamie McCormick, Professional Staffer to Mario Díaz-Balart on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programmes (SFOPS). The meeting addressed Tibet-related appropriations matters, key concerns, and funding priorities.
Sikyong was also briefed by the leadership of Radio Free Asia and the Voice of America Tibetan Service at the Office of Tibet. Discussions focused on their broadcasting efforts, outreach to Tibetan audiences, and the importance of ensuring the free flow of information into Tibet and the wider region.
