Gangtok, Sikkim: On 16 and 17 May 2026, the Gangtok Ghoton Organising Committee held long-life prayer services and offering ceremonies dedicated to His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Cholkha Sum Hall, in the presence of 95 monks invited from Wo Monastery, along with members of the Ghoton Committee and the general public.

Coinciding with the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibetans from all walks of life are observing the ‘Year of Compassion’ by organising various programmes and events in their respective local areas throughout the year, from 6 July 2025 to 5 July 2026, in honour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s benevolent leadership and lifelong contributions to the Tibetan cause and the well-being of the Tibetan people.

Likewise, in Gangtok, the local Ghoton Organising Committee has been implementing a number of programmes and activities in the region.
