
Tokyo: Tibet House Japan observed Japan national cultural day with Tibetan traditional Gorshay, circle dance, on 3 November. The event was organised to promote and celebrate the cultural understanding between the two communities and appreciate the Tibetan traditional arts and songs.
Tashi Yangzom, Secretary of the Tibet House Japan, welcomed the participants and briefed the importance of observing cultural day and drew parallels between the Tibetan Gorshey and Japan’s Bon odori dance. Both dances symbolise unity and shared community feeling and spirit of peace and harmony.
The participants learned the steps and under the guidance of Tibetan friends did an hour long gorshay dance and conversation on Tibetan dances. The participants were thrilled to wear Tibetan traditional dresses, chupa and do the dancing.
To enhance the cultural experience, guests were served Tibetan butter tea, to relish the taste of Tibetan hospitality and tradition. The participants expressed joy and expressed their satisfaction to be able to participate in the Tibetan dance and culture.
