
Schleswig-Holstein: On the morning of 24 June 2025, Kalon (Minister) Norzin Dolma of the Department of Information and International Relations, accompanied by Under Secretary Migmar Bhuti and fellow members of the South Asian delegation, commenced their official visit to Schleswig-Holstein with a tour of the Theodor-Steltzer-Kaserne military base. The delegation subsequently participated in a breakfast meeting followed by a comprehensive presentation by Commander Colonel Michael Skamel and Chief of the German Navy Frank, fostering important military and diplomatic exchanges.
The morning program continued with a visit to the State Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein, where the delegation received a comprehensive briefing on “The Role of the State Parliament in the Federal System” by Dr. Heiner Garg, Member of State Parliament who brings considerable expertise to the discussion as a prominent politician from the Free Democratic Party (FDP). Dr. Garg’s distinguished career includes two terms as Minister of Health, Labour and Social Affairs in Schleswig-Holstein, providing valuable insights into German federal governance structures. The presentation was followed by interactive discussions with the visiting delegation.
Following the parliamentary engagement, Kalon Norzin Dolma and the delegation proceeded to the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kiel for a working lunch session. The delegates were introduced to the chamber’s operational framework and its vital role in supporting regional economic development and industry collaboration.
The afternoon featured a unique cultural and historical experience at the Betriebshof der Torfbahn Himmelmoor. The delegation was warmly received by Thomas Beckmann, Mayor of Quickborn, and Annabell Krämer, Chair of the Quickborn City Council and Deputy Speaker of the State Parliament Schleswig-Holstein and Members of the FDP Group in the Quickborn City Council.
Under the guidance of Dan Zelck, Chairman of the Board of the Torfbahn Himmelmoor Association, the delegation explored the historic narrow-gauge peat railway, meticulously restored locomotives and wagons, and the distinctive Nissenhütte workshop. The site stands as an indication to dedicated volunteer preservation efforts and regional heritage conservation.
The day concluded with an evening dinner meeting at Restaurant Alte Schmiede, hosted by Thomas Beckmann, Mayor of Quickborn, and Annabell Krämer, Chair of the Quickborn City Council and Deputy Speaker of the State Parliament Schleswig-Holstein. Members of the FDP Group in the Quickborn City Council also participated in this significant gathering, which marked the establishment of new diplomatic and cultural connections between the regions.
The comprehensive visiting program and coordination of meetings with various regional dignitaries was expertly organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), ensuring productive exchanges and meaningful dialogue throughout the delegation’s visit to Schleswig-Holstein.
