
Taipei: On 16 October 2024, Migyur Youdon, the Secretary of the Office of Tibet in Taipei, attended the 2024 East Asia Democracy Forum, organised by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy. The forum addressed the critical challenges facing democracies today and underscored the vital role of an active civil society in enhancing democratic practices.
The Honourable Han Kuo-Yu, President of the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan), delivered opening remarks during the inaugural session of the forum, followed by addresses from other distinguished speakers. The speakers collectively expressed their concerns regarding the abuse of power by authoritarian leaders, which contributes to instability within the international community.
On the sidelines of the forum, Secretary Migyur Youdon engaged with notable attendees, including the Director of International Affairs from the Legislative Yuan, officials from the Legislative Yuan Speaker’s Office, and various scholars, to inform them about the Tibetan cause and garner their support. In a special meeting with Dachi Liao, Chairman of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, and Yeh-Chung Lu, the Foundation’s Vice Chairman, Secretary Migyur Youdon expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Office of Tibet for the continued support and facilitation provided by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy over the years.
The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy is a prominent institution in Taiwan, operating under the guidance and supervision of the President of the Legislative Yuan and Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
