
Tokyo: Dr Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, Representative of the Liaison Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Japan and East Asia, and the staff of Tibet House Japan and members of the Tibetan Community in Japan visited the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo on 11 October 2024. They met with H.E. Katherine E. Monahan, the Deputy Chief of Mission, and conveyed the gratitude of the Tibetans in Japan to the U.S. government for the legislation of the “Resolve Tibet Act” in July this year.
Representative Arya conveyed, “I on behalf of all the Tibetans in Japan and my staff here thank the U.S. government for the continued support in resolving the Tibet issue and making the U.S. government’s policy on Tibet clear and transparent.” and presented a memento, a photo frame of President Joe Biden signing an Act with the caption “Thank you USA for passing the Resolve Tibet Act”.
Representative Arya informed H.E. Katherine Monahan and the staff that the U.S. Tibet Resolve Act has been translated into Japanese and Korean and presented to the lawmakers, officials, intellectuals, and media of the two countries, with an appeal that similar policies be adopted by the respective governments.
H.E. Katherine Monahan thanked the delegation for visiting the Embassy and appreciated the feeling of the Tibetans and promised full support for the just and peaceful cause of Tibet. Colin Fishwick and Melissa Owens of the political section of the Embassy also attended the meeting and expressed their support to work together for freedom and democracy.
The delegation presented His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s book “Book of Joy”; the Vision Paper of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA); and Dr. Arya’s book “Harnessing the Dragon’s Fume” and some other books on the Tibet issue to the Deputy Chief of the Mission and the staff.
