
Delhi: The three-day Tibet festival “Spirit of Tibet: Celebrating Culture and Compassion” commenced at India International Centre in New Delhi on 3 September 2024.
The inaugural seminar on the “Relevance of Tibet to India: Past, Present, and Future.” featured prominent speakers, including Sikyong Penpa Tsering, former Indian diplomat Ambassador Dilip Sinha, former Director General of Military Operations Lt. Gen. Vinod Bhatia, and Tibetologist Claude Arpi.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering emphasised the importance of finding a solution to the long-standing Tibet-China conflict through the Middle Way Approach policy and reiterated Kashag’s firm commitment to it. He further highlighted global support for Tibet, including from the US and India.
The festival featured a diverse range of events, including seminars, lectures, and documentary screenings. Eminent personalities including former Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung of New Delhi, Prof. Anand Kumar, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and Ven. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, shared their profound insight on different subjects.
The venue has transformed into a vibrant hub for cultural expression, showcasing a wide range of immersive experiences to celebrate the rich heritage of Tibetan culture. This multifaceted event features activities, including the creation of a Tibetan Buddhist sand mandala, captivating cultural performances, an informative exhibition on Tibet’s historical and political evolution, and a hands-on wood painting workshop. Collectively, these elements serve as a testament to the rich and deep-rooted Tibetan culture.
The festival drew a remarkable turnout of more than 500 participants on its first day, reflecting the shared interest and unity in celebrating Tibetan culture. The Department of Information and International Relations (CTA) organised the three-day festival in collaboration with the Foundation for Non-violent Alternatives, The Tibet Fund, and the USAID, highlighting the enduring significance of Tibetan culture and its relevance to the world today.
