Tibetan National Uprising Day Observed Across Russian Federation[Friday, 11 March 2011, 6:36 p.m.]
MOSCOW: The
commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the Tibetan people’s peaceful
uprising of 1959 against the Chinese authorities and the third
anniversary of the peaceful protests throughout Tibet in 2008 was
observed in several cities in Russian Federation. In Moscow,
the event began at Open World Center with prayer for those brave
Tibetans who sacrificed their lives for the just cause of Tibet. While
paying homage to all Tibetan martyrs, Representative of His Holiness
the Dalai Lama to Russia & CIS, Nawang Rabgyal, briefly introduced
the special occasion of the event. It was followed by reading the the
Statement (Russian translation) of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the
52nd anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day. The event was
attended by Russian, Buryat and Kalmyk Buddhists and was concluded with
the Guru Puja Tsog dedicated to all the martyrs, who sacrificed their
lives for the cause of Tibet. The Guru Puja was led by Geshe Ngawang
Thugje and Gomang Ngawang Riglam at Tibet Culture and Information
Center. In Elista, capital of Kalmyk Republic, the
commemoration began at Kalmyk Buddhist Temple with prayers led by
monks. The event was participated by Tibetans and the friends and
supporters of Tibet. Mrs. Antonina Kookueva, Chairperson of Friends of
Tibet Society, read out the Statement of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. A
documentary film on the current situation in Tibet was shown to the
public. In the evening the candle light vigil was held by over 100
Tibetan supporters at Union Square, in the center of Elista. In
Ulan Ude, capital of Buryat Republic, the 10th March was observed as
Tibet Day at Buryat National Library and Dr. Irina Urbanaeva, Director
of Green Tara Community, which organized the event, read out the
Statement of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. A documentary film show and
photo exhibition on Tibet were organized on Tibet Day in Ulan Ude. In
Kyizil, capital of Tuva Republic, the 52nd anniversary of the Tibetan
National Uprising Day was also observed by friends of Tibet and
Tibetans. The event in three traditional Buddhist Republics were
covered by their medias.
