CHAUNTRA:
On the occasion of 52nd Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day on
10 March 2011, the Tibetans in Bir and Chauntra organised a day-long
programme to protest against the brutal suppression of the Tibetan
people’s peaceful uprising by the People’s Republic of China in 1959.
programme started with prayers for those brave men and women who have
lost their lives under the subjugation of the PRC. Around 600 people
including monks, nuns, teachers, students and general public took part
in the event at Bir Sambhota Tibetan School. Tibetan and Indian
National Anthem were sung to commemorate the day.
Tenzin Rabga, Settlement Officer at Chauntra and Ms Tsering Lhamo,
Settlement Officer at Bir Tibetan Society, delivered the statement of
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the Kashag respectively. The
Settlement Officers encouraged the public to participate in the
upcoming elections of Kalon Tripa and members of Tibetan Parliament.

Friendship Society, Paprola who is a staunch supporter of the Tibetan
freedom struggle, was also read out by the Tibetan settlement
officer. Pamphlets in Tibetan, English and Hindi were distributed to
raise local people’s awareness on the Tibet struggle for justice.

and women who sacrificed their lives for the just cause of Tibet.
