Among those who sent their greetings from Vilnius were Franciscan priest Julius Sasnauskas, artist Ray Bartkus, musician Saulius Urbonavičius-Samas, diplomat Algirdas Kumža, philosopher and writer Mantas Adomėnas, Members of the European Parliament Dainius Žalimas and Petras Auštrevičius, Members of the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) Jurgita Sejonienė and Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for Relations with Tibet Andrius Navickas, and many other Tibet supporters.
“The 14th Dalai Lama remains the most prominent beacon of common human values and moral norms in today’s turmoil and conflicts. Despite his advanced age and the devastation the Tibetan people have suffered under Chinese occupation, he inspires countless people to take meaningful action, choose freedom, and find hope in a variety of situations, including the most difficult ones,” said social activist Jurga Jackevičiūtė.
Member of the Seimas Andrius Navickas noted that today’s Dalai Lama needs a unique symbol of hope and thanked him for his attention to Lithuania and all his efforts for the world’s welfare.
“We have lived through those struggles; we know what it means to gain freedom. We sympathize with those still fighting for their freedom and identity, to be who they are,” said Saulius Urbonavičius-Sam, producer and founder of the band BIX.
Philosopher, writer, and former politician Mantas Adomėnas echoed him: “We know that you believe in freedom. You believed in Lithuania’s freedom before the whole world did; you believed it was possible. Your faith has inspired us to believe in Tibet’s freedom. And as I wish you good health, unfailing strength and peace of mind, let me express our shared belief that we will see Tibet and the Tibetan people free and independent to pursue their spiritual calling to humanity,” Adomėnas said.
Meanwhile, Ray Bartkus, a well-known creator of interdisciplinary art, celebrated his birthday on the same day as the Dalai Lama’s and promised to raise a glass for his health.
