Tokyo: Representative of the Liaison Office of H.H. the Dalai Lama for Japan and East Asia, Dr. Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, met with Ishikawa Akimasa, Vice Minister of the Cabinet and Digital Ministry, and General Secretary of the Japan Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet, today at his chamber at the Japan Parliament’s Lower House building in Tokyo.
Representative Arya briefed Lawmaker Ishikawa Akimasa on the outcome of the recently concluded International Tibet Support Groups (ITSG) meeting held in Brussels city for three days (23 – 25 Feb). A brief explanation of the ITSG statement and the seven major action plans was done and the request was made for the support of the Parliament members in realising the plans.
He apprised the lawmaker on the continued Chinese interference in Tibetan religious matters, including the CCP’s claim on the selection of the Dalai Lama, and the critical situation of the young Tibetan children in the Chinese colonial boarding schools in Tibet. He handed copies of the reports on the Chinese religious interference and the colonial boarding schools.
Dr. Arya further informed the lawmaker on the recent mass arrest of the Tibetans peacefully protesting Chinese forced relocation and destruction of monasteries in the Kham Dege region of Eastern Tibet to build dams in the region.
Lawmaker Ishikawa Akimasa said he was aware of the ongoing peaceful protest in the Kham Dege region and the Chinese atrocities and expressed his solidarity with the Tibetans in Tibet. He thanked the Representative for his briefing on the outcome of the International Tibet Support Group meeting and promised his full cooperation in getting the plans executed.
They further discussed the celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday, education and rehabilitation work of the Tibetans in exile.
