Representative Sonam Dagpo meets Tibetans, support groups in Adelaide[Thursday, 23 December 2010, 4:00 p.m.]
His
Holiness the Dalai Lama’s representative for Australia, New Zealand and
South Asia paid a two-day visit to meet Tibetans and Tibet support
groups based in the southern Australian city of Adelaide on 18 – 19
DecemberCANBERRA: Representative Mr Sonam Norbu Dagpo has
called on Tibetans to take greater responsibility on the fundamental
issues of Tibet, particularly in giving proper guidance and teaching
traditional culture, language and religion to the younger generation.During
his meeting with the Tibetan community and members of Tibet Support
Groups at Khensur Kagyur Rinpoche’s Tibetan Buddhist institute in
Adelaide on 18 December, Mr Dagpo spoke on the importance for the
Tibetan people to pay their voluntary contribution (Tib: Chatrel) on time. He
underlined the importance of exercising right to vote during the
upcoming elections of Kalon Tripa and Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile on 20
March 2011.Mr Dagpo briefed the gathering on a wide-range of
important issues, including efforts to resolve the issue of Tibet
through the middle-way policy, the status of dialogue process between
the envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the PRC leadership, human
rights situation inside Tibet and the forthcoming democratic elections
in the exile Tibetan community.He also answered questions
raised during the meeting, which include the recent issue of Tibetan
people’s peaceful protest against the Chinese government’s wrong policy
on Tibetan language and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s statement on
taking retirement.He conveyed gratitude to the Tibet Support Groups and appealed for their continuous support on the issue of Tibet.Earlier
at noon, he met two executive members of the Tibetan Association and
the president of an organisation of East Turkestan at a luncheon
reception, and discuss with them ways to preserve culture and further
activities. On 19 December, Representative Sonam N Dagpo paid
a visit to Tibetan Buddhist Institute in Adelaide and met with Khensur
Kagyur Rinpoche.
