DHARAMSHALA: Namgyal Yemphel, Director of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society, completed his maiden visits to Sambhota Tibetan Schools in Mainpat, Bhandara and Orissa from 25 August to 7 September 2017. Along with the detailed inspection of the respective schools, he has carried out an Awareness Programme on Basic Education Policy in the Tibetan settlements.
Over 500 people including students, teachers and the general public took part in the awareness programme in the three settlements of Phendheling Mainpat, Norgyaling Bhandara and Phuntsokling Orissa.
He is currently on an ongoing visit to Ravangla, Tezu and Tenzingang with the dual programmes in the schools and settlements from 11 to 23 September 2017. There has been over-whelming response to the talks and hundreds have attended the two and half-hour long interactive sessions.
The main topics covered during the awareness programme on BEP were “The Meaning of Education” and “The Aims of giving Education”.
The awareness programme also covered a wide range of other topics including Secular Ethics, the role of parents in child’s education and the responsibilities of a responsible society.
BEP mentors Mingchung, Thinley Palmo and Sonam Gyalpo will be giving BEP awareness talks to Tibetan Children’s Village Schools from 11 to 18 September. THF General Secretary Karma Chungdak, Migmar and Sangpo will be giving BEP awareness talks to Doon Valley Tibetan settlements and Tibetan Homes Foundation schools from 13 September 2017 onwards.
The above cited BEP mentors were trained during a 3-day workshop on ‘Creating awareness about the BEP’ organised by the Department of Education on 24-26 May 2017. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, former Kalon Tripa of the CTA, was one of the trainers in the workshop.
The ongoing BEP awareness programme is being initiated by DoE and funded by USAID through Tibet Fund.
