
CHICAGO, April 25, 2012: Kalon Tripa Dr. Lobsang Sangay met privately with former Polish President and Nobel Peace Laureate Lech Walesa this morning at J.W. Marriott Hotel on the side of the last day of the 12th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Chicago, followed by meeting of both Lech Walesa and Kalon Tripa with His Holiness the Dalai Lama for about 45 minutes.
During the meeting with the Nobel Peace Laureates, Kalon Tripa expressed the greetings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and explained about the current situation inside Tibet, and the historic transfer of political leadership from His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the democratically elected political leadership.
All the four Nobel Laureates mentioned below explicitly expressed their admiration for the historic political transfer to the democratically elected Political leadership, and wishes for successful of the new leadership. They have ensured every support for the new leadership and the Tibetan cause including possibility of visiting Tibet for fact-finding mission, to visit Dharamsala to support new leadership in particular and solidarit with Tibetan issue in general, for which they have agreed to follow up with Kalon Tripa.
Apart from many private shared visions, His Holiness expressed to Lech Walesa about taking joint effort of Nobel Laureates to raise a strong call for the release of Liu Xiaobo which will help to boost the morale of millions of Chinese people who are looking for more freedom and an open society.
Kalon Tripa also attended a meeting of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with former President of Soviet Union and Nobel Laureate Mikhail Gorbachev for about 45 meetings, which was followed by His Holiness attending a final session of Nobel Peace Summit with Mikhail Gorbachev, Jody William and Muhammed Yunus. His Holiness expressed expressed about the nature of Non-violence movement of Tibetan struggle, and democratization of Tibetan Administration by stressing more on transfer of Political leadership to the democratic elected Leader who was born and educated in exile, and competent and ready to lead the Tibetan movement. His Holiness also expressed happiness over the firm stand of new Leadership on Middle Way Policy to resolve the Tibetan issue. Jody William focussed more on the need of Demilitarization in the World, where as Muhammed Yunus shared about Grameen Bank, and stressed that the poor people has a potential and needs the space to grow in the Society, and strongly called for connecting people’s innovation & intellectual towards eradicating social problems rather than merely making money. Mikhail Gorbachev stressed about the need of any political reforms must be done without bloodshed.
The Noble Summit’s closing statement applauds the youth of the World who are standing up and speaking out in protest against injustice and inequality and defending the right to peace, social justice and a sustainable future, and urged the young people to question leaders about what they are doing to address the main challenges that face the World today:
1. What are you doing for the abolition of nuclear arms and other indiscriminate weapons and reduction of military spending?
2. What are you doing to bridge the divide between wealth and crushing poverty?
3. What are you doing to save our planet from environmental disaster?
4. What are doing to protect and promote human rights and equality between women and men?
And during the Noble Peace Laureates joint press conference, urged the Chinese government to release Liu Xiaobo including many questions to His Holiness regarding Tibetan issue, choosing of next Dalai Lama, etc.
Tomorrow, Kalon Tripa will address the Tibetan community in Chicago at 7.30am followed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s address to the Tibetan community.
His Holiness will give public talk on non-violence as well as on interfaith dialogue, and will also address an event at Loyola University.
