
Taipei: The Representative office of H.H. the Dalai Lama based in Taipei and Tibetan Association of Taiwan, jointly organised a day-long seminar on Tibet at the National Taiwan University Alumni Club on 23rd November 2013.The theme of the seminar was “Analyzing human rights and religious freedom through the Tibetan self-immolations”.
Many Chinese scholars and Tibet experts attended the seminar including Mr.Wang Lixiong, well-known Chinese writer and scholar, Mr.Liu Yi, a Beijing based Chinese artist, Mr.Teng Biao, a lawyer and human rights activist and Dr.Yang Jian Li from the USA. There were also participants from Hong kong and Macau.
The seminar was divided into five sessions with different penalists. Each session was chaired by Professors and scholars from different universities of Taiwan. They were Prof. Su Chia Hong, Prof. Sun Chi Pan, Prof. Zeng Jian Yuan, Mr. Yiong Coing Ziin and former legislative yuan member Mr.Qian Da.
The seminar began with a brief welcome speech by Mr.Dawa Tsering, the Representative of H.H. the Dalai Lama and the Vice President of Tibetan Association. It was followed by first session with talks on Tibet by Chitue Mr.Kalsang Gyaltsen, Geshe Jampa Gyatso and Dr. Yang Jian Li on Tibet and current situation in Tibet.
Mr.Wang Lixiong spoke and express his thoughts and views on Tibetan peoples self-immolation. Mr.Liu Yi presented details of his art work of black and white portrait of Tibetan self-immolators who have set themselves on fire to protest China.
All the speakers at the seminar expressed their concern over the worsening situation in Tibet and they also expressed their support for the middle way appraoch to resolve the issue of Tibet and Tibetan people.
Ganjong publication will bring out a book on this seminar after compiling all the writings of the experts.
