2 Teachers of Tibetan Schools Bag National Awards

Dharamshala: Two teachers from Tibetan schools were honoured by India President A P J Abdul Kalam with the prestigious National Awards in a ceremony on the Teachers Day at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

T.T. Zongpa, PGT of the Central School for Tibetans (CST) in Mundgod, Karnataka, and S.P. Sharma, principal of the CST Dholanji, Himachal Pradesh, were conferred the “National Awards for Teachers-2004” along with 304 others from across India.
The awards are presented every year on 5 September, celebrated as Teacher’s Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s second President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a silver medal and a certificate of merit.
In another similar ceremony in Delhi on 3 September, Tsering Phuntsok, the education officer of the Education Department of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) was honoured with the Dr. Radhakrishna Award.
Mr. Phuntsok and 99 others received this award from Mangat Ram Singal, Minister for Industries, Government of India.
All India Freelance Journalists & Writers Associations, Delhi, initiated this award some two decades ago “to recognise outstanding contributions in the field of education”.
Mr. Phuntsok received this award “as a token of recognition for his devoted work for the Tibetan schools”, writes P.C. Bose, from the Directorate of Education, in a communication to the CTA.
