16 Candidates Short-listed for Election of 3 Deputies
Dharamsala, 27 April: The Tibetan Election Commission has announced a shortlist of 16 candidates, who have got the highest number of votes in the preliminary rounds of election held on 24 April, in 51 electoral regions throughout India, Nepal and Bhutan. Of these 16 candidates, 10 would contest for the 2 vacant seats of Domed deputies and 6 will contest for the vacant Utsang Deputy’s seat. They will replace the three deputies who have recently resigned viz. Domed deputies Dugkar Tsering and Tenzin Khedup and Utsang deputy Tsering Norzom.
The 10 nominees for two Domed deputies are Chapdrak Lhamo Kyap, Tenzin Gonpo, Lodoe Namgyal, Lodoe Tenzin, Mewu Gonpo Tso, Tsering Youdon, Amdo Dhondup, Tenzin Losel, Tenzin Choephel, and Lodoe. The 6 nominees for one Utsang deputy are Karma Yeshi, Yeshi Phuntsok, Tsewang Sonam, Gyalnor Tsewang, Gonshar Tashi Wangdu, and Dangshar Yonten Gyatso.
Nearly 2,000 Domed voters, about 46% of total number of registered voters, and 10,600 Utsang voters, about 26% of total number of registered voters, participated in this preliminary election.
The final election would be held on 2 July 2004.
