
Dharamshala: The 12th Local Tibetan Assembly of Hunsur Rabgyeling Tibetan Settlement was formally sworn in on 18 March 2026. The oath of office was administered by Phuntsok Palden, Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner of the Southern Region.
Of the 17 elected members, 13 took the oath during the ceremony held at the Community Hall. The event was attended by the Acting Tibetan Settlement Officer, Tsering Choeden, along with members of the Local Election Commission.
Norbu Gyaltsen and Jigme Namgyal were duly elected as the President and Vice-President of the Assembly, respectively.
On the subsequent day, the Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner convened a legal awareness programme at the Hunsur Cooperative Society Hall, attended by approximately 50 local dignitaries and members of the public. The session focused on the structure, functions, and jurisdiction of the Tibetan Judiciary, followed by an interactive discussion addressing queries and suggestions from participants.
The Justice Commissioner also held a meeting with the Tibetan Laws and Customs Counsellors of Hunsur, emphasising their responsibilities in upholding legal frameworks and advising them to implement the guidelines outlined in the Tibetan Laws and Customs Counsellors’ professional ethics code.
Additionally, Dawa Choedon, Secretary of the Local Tibetan Justice Commission, delivered a briefing on the academic qualifications required for pursuing legal studies and highlighted career opportunities within the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session.
