Odisha: The 11th Local Tibetan Assembly of Odisha Tibetan settlement was sworn in on 23 October following the election of 14 new members including its chair Jamphel Dhondup and vice-chair Tsering Yangzom.
Tenzin Yonten, the Local Justice Commissioner administered the oath of the newly elected members as per the Tibetan Charter in Exile’s Article 69.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the Local Justice Commissioner gave a legal awareness talk to the public including schools. He enlightened them about the evolution of Tibetan democracy in exile and the powers and responsibilities of the three pillars of the Central Tibetan Administration. They were also elucidated on the Tibetan Justice Commission’s code of judiciary and its organisation and jurisdiction. The team also informed the public about the Code of Civil Procedure’s principal law and provided a detailed guideline on the different types of evidence, the admissibility of evidence, the veracity of witnesses, the examination of witnesses, and the standard of proof.
