10th March Project 2011 underway in Bangkok, Thailand[Friday, 3 June 2011, 9:41 a.m.]

Bangkok:
Catuddisa Sangha, groups of Buddhist monks and laymen from different
parts of the world, dedicated to serving people through various
training and giving micro-credit to under privileged, has organised a
four-day members’ conference from 1st to 4th June, 2011 in Bangkok,
Thailand, in association with Super Sangha, Japanese Buddhists for
Tibet and International Tibet Network.March Project is an
annual conference but this year, the Catuddisa Sangha dedicated it to
the Tibetans in Tibet for their courage and resistance against the
ruling Chinese repressive government.Mr Tenzin Norbu from
Environment and Development Desk of Department of Information and
International Relations, Central Tibetan Administration, and Mr Tsering
Choedup of International Tibet Network represented Tibet and its
people. They respectively gave presentations on Tibet’s environment and
Global Tibet Movement.Mr Norbu’s presentation on Tibet’s river
and its implication on the downstream nations was very highly
acknowledged and appreciated. He also dwelled on the issues of nomad’s
removal from their ancestral pastoral land, and on resource
exploitation. In his presentation, Mr Norbu categorically said, “Our
work on environment is based on studies conducted by Chinese and
foreigners who have firsthand experiences of having travelled and done
extensive research on Tibetan plateau.” Mr Choedup highlighted
the role of the network and the current situation of Tibet and the
network’s campaign priorities. “Being Buddhist, we all share many
common things and also there are many things that we can learn from
each other if we join our hands together” added Mr Choedup. They also
distributed pamphlet on Tibet Third Pole as well as research report on
Tibet’s environment to the participants.Mr Carl Middleton from
the International Rivers gave impressive and detailed presentation on a
campaign against Mekong river damming project focusing on Xayaburi Dam
in Laos.77 participants from 11 different countries across Asia
and Americas are taking part in this four-day conference. Many
participants will undertake an extension mission to Mae-sot – Thailand
and Aranyaprathet – Cambodia after the conference.
