100s of Tibetans & Indians pray for His Holiness’ long life

Dharamshala: Hundreds of Tibetans and Indians in the state capital, Shimla, held last Wednesday a joint prayer session for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The event marking the occasion of the 2551st birth anniversary of Lord Buddha was organised by members of the local chapter of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society and various Tibetan fraternities.
Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur was the chief guest of the event organised at the Dorji-dak Monastery, Kusmpti.
The event opened with unveiling of a large thanka painting of Lord Buddha, amidst prayers by the monks of the monastery.
Speaking on the occasion, The Tibetan Welfare Officer, Ngawang Yonten, who is also the vice-president of the local chapter of Indo Tibetan Friendship Society, expressed gratitude to the government and people of Himachal Pradesh for their unwavering support to the Tibetan people.
In his address, the chief guest reminded the people of the essence of the Buddha’s message to spread love and compassion within the community as well as throughout the world.
He also assured that the Government of Himachal Pradesh will continue to render all possible help to the Tibetan community.
The Abbot (Khen Rinpoche) of the Jonang Monastery at Sanjauli, Shimla, also addressed the occasion.
Later, monks of the Dorjidak Monastery performed cham, while the students of Central School for Tibetans presented a dazzling cultural show.
