Tokyo: The Tibetan community in Japan (TCJ) organised a prayer service on Sunday, 17 July to mourn the tragic demise of the former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe a prominent leader who has also been a strong supporter of Tibet issue.
Tashi Yangzom, Secretary of Tibet House, expressed deep sorrow over the sudden and tragic demise of the former Prime Minister adding it was a huge loss not only for Japan but to the entire world. She reminded in commend his democratic vision for the country while underlining his long-standing support for Tibetan people’s struggle for freedom. Indicating Tibetan people’s strong feeling of loss, she read out the condolence letter extended by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the bereaved family.
Sonam Tsering, Vice President of the Tibetan community expressing grief over the tragic loss said the Tibetans in Japan are shocked and lament the sudden demise of the former Prime Minister. He commended the late Shinzo Abe’s support and inspiration in the formation of the Japan Parliamentary Group for Tibet.
Tselha and Hasegawa of Tibet House Japan on 11th July offered a funeral wreath and later visited the late Prime Minister’s office to deliver the condolence letters from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Speaker Sonam Tenphel, and Kalon Norzin Dolma of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Dharamsala, India.
Prayers of Dolma, Heart sutra, and Mani were recited for the departed soul and for his swift rebirth in a higher realm. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, the prayer session was held with a limited number of people in accordance with the law of the country.
