Lithuania: The Tibetan Parliamentary delegation comprising Parliamentarians Youdon Aukatsang, Wangdue Dorjee and Tenpa Yarphel who recently concluded their official engagements in Prague arrived in Vilnius on Saturday to begin their Lithuanian part of the visit to Europe.
While in Lithuania, they are scheduled for a meeting with Lithuanian MPs, government officials and Tibet supporters as well as a visit to Tibet Square which has become the hub of Tibet events in Vilnius since its opening in 2010. Tibet Square has a mandala consecrated in 2013 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who also planted an Everest apple tree there in 2018. Tibetan murals and prayer flags also mark the area as a dedication to Tibet and Tibetans. The square was made into a scene of remembrance for the Tibetan self-immolators in 2013. Although there are no Tibetans living in Lithuania, staunch Tibet supporters like Vytis Vidūnas and parliamentarians Laima Andrikienė and Andrius Navickas in the Seimas always ensured high visibility of Tibet in the Lithuanian civil society and government.
Representative Sonam Frasi of the Office of Tibet, London is accompanying the delegation in Lithuania along with ICT Europe.
